| Does anyone else have a rasp coming from there exhaust from 2500-3000rpm?
It's always been there on mine but since i got my new muffler, you can hear it more.
It got worse when i snapped 2 of my heat shield bolts, do you think it could be the heat shield rattling against it?

| I do get a strange noise at them revs. I think it's just the 3SGE noise.
I was next to an Altezza today at the lights and he had a 3SGE beams with a fart can on the back, it had the same noise as are 3SGE's.
I'm assuming your talking about the tinny rasp?

| I get the tinny noise but i'm also getting something else, it actually sounds like it's a rattle coming from the rear muffler, shall have to check it out tomorrow.
Thanks | |

| you should check your heat shield above your muffler. the resonance might be causing it to tap against the metal | |

Just checked now. It wasn't hitting it but i removed it for a test and its better but not completely gone. I think the shield makes it echo more. - slammed_celica wrote:

I checked this aswell, seems fine but the inside has probably had it, after all it is a 20 year old car Thanks again guys

| Like i said, every ST182 i have been in has that noise at that RPM. A well made exhaust system will sort it. Im going for a long resonator, either a De-cat pipe or a sports cat with an Apexi N1. Possibly another resonator to silence it. Am also going to replace all gaskets, etc. Im also going to use mild steel, stainless steel rasps like nothing else | |

| Thanks for the replies everyone, i have found the problem(s). 1. The exhaust is hitting against the crossmember 2. Cat is on its way out and the baffles have collapsed giving it the tinny sound. One thing i have noticed is when the car has warmed up, the tinny sound goes and leaves an ordinary rasp | |

| Ive found 'most' of the problem, under the headers is another heat shield and the shield has rusted away from the rusty bolts so now looks like this: (Will take a photo tomorrow) So now flaps against the exhaust pipe so need to get it welded back together | |
